| IAU 24 hours European Championship – pre-race report
The International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU), the Romanian Athletics Federation (RAF) and the Local Organization Committee (LOC) represented by Super Sports Club are proud to organize the 2018 IAU 24 hours European Championships. From May 26th till May 27th, 30 National Teams from Europe will gather together in Timisoara in Romania to take part in this event.
The city on the shores of the Bega is a place where history meets novelty and cultural diversity. Timișoara provides its visitors with tourist attractions worthy of an European city: cultural events, urban art sows, architectural heritage, parks that are genuine oases of greenery and quiet.
We will have opportunity to see one of the best athletes that compete in 24 hours races. The women’s favorites are as follow.
Patrycja Bereznowski (POL) is current 24H World Champion from Belfast (2017) where she set her current personal best (259.991 km) that is the WBP as well. In addition early this year she set WBP for 48H (401.000 km) that is pending ratification.
Maria Jansson (SWE) is current European Champion from Albi (2016) where she set her current personal best (250.647 km). She is third women in EU that did more than 250 km in 24H race.
Therese Falk (NOR) PB 236.800 km, Michaela Dimitriadu (CZE) PB 244.232 km (2012 World lead in 24H), Anne-Marie Vernet (FRA) PB 239.685 km (2008 World lead in 24H), Julia Fatton (GER) PB 236.183 km (2017 World lead in 48H) will be trying to make big moves as well at the front and try to lead their respective teams to best results as well.
In the men´s race we will have.
Johan Steene (SWE) individual 2017 World Championship bronze medalist. He set his PB during this WC (266.515 km). Johan is fantastic long distance runner who participates in multiday races with great results (2017 World lead for 6 Days race).
Florian Reus (GER) is one of the best German ultra runner with PB 263.889 km set at 2015 World Championship where he became World Champion. He is German, European and World multi medalist. He managed to get his first World Championship medal in Katowice in 2012.
Dan Lawson (GBR) is defending European Champion from Albi, France where he has run his current PB 261.843 km.
Stephane Ruel (FRA) PB 260.077km set in 2017 (2017 top 5 in the World for 12H with 147.481 km), Aleksandr Sorokin (LTU) PB 260.491 km set in 2016 (3rd result in the World that year), Ondřej Velička (CZE) PB 258.661 km set in 2016 (4th result in the World that year), Radek Brunner (CZE) PB 253.219 km set in 2017, Ludovic Dilmi (FRA) 257.819 km (4th results in the World in 2012), Marco Consani (GBR) PB 256.531 km set in 2015, James Stewart (GBR) PB 258.110 km set in 2016, Norbert Mihalik (HUN) PB 259.403 km set in 2017, Bjoern Tore Kronen Taranger (NOR) PB 257.606 km in 2015, Andrzej Radzikowski (POL) PB 258.228 km set in 2017.
This is one of the deepest fields we ever had in the championships. It promises to be an exciting race.
