4th IAU Trail World Championships to be held in Gwydyr Forest, North Wales on July 6th 2013 [UPDATED with course map 22nd April 2013]
The IAU Executive Committee is pleased to announce that the 4th IAU Trail World Championships will be held in North Wales in Gwydyr Forest on July 6th 2013. This is in agreement with the Local Organising Committee composed of a partnership of the Welsh Government, Conwy Borough Council and both Welsh Athletics and British Athletics. A provisional course map has also been put on the website.

| IAU 100K European Championships 2013, Belves (FRA) April 27th 2013.
Today, (20th February) the FFA have sent out the invitations and details for the IAU 100K Championships to all the IAU European Member Federations and the IAU have also sent out the travel grant information to the individual countries. For both athletes and team managers the General Information Sheet is attached here and we look forward to seeing all our European friends in Belves in April.

Taiwan Ultrarunners Pledge Support to Japan Red Cross
When I first ventured into the sport of ultrarunning at the beginning of this century, I did not realize that I was not only entering a new sport but also being invited into an entirely new family --- the ultrarunning community.
The camaraderie of this sport runs deep and the respect of federations and athletes towards each other is second to none. I have seen examples of this over and over again throughout the last eleven years.
Many number of us have had several restless movements over the last week since we heard about the tragedy that struck Japan. A lot of us know of many ultrarunners and team management from Japan that we have come across over the years and have become friends with personally.
A group of runners under the Taiwan Ultrarunning Society has taken some practical aspects to help the ultrarunners from Japan. Eleven runners from Taiwan will participate in the Athens Ultramarathon Festival taking place from 3-13 April 2011. The money that the runners raise from this race will be donated to Japan Red Cross to help the victims of the earthquake.
Frank Kuo of the Taiwan Ultrarunning Society is one of the main organizers and I spoke to him about this yesterday. He game me more details, “We recruited friends to donate for every kilometer we run. After the race, we will collect all of the charity amounts and donate them to the Japan Red Cross. Originally, the act was just between local ultrarunners´ society.”
Something that was initially planned on a small scale has grown several folds as the national newspaper in Taiwan covered this story. Now Frank has hundreds of people who have pledged funds and are encouraging runners to run father and in turn, donate more money to help the earthquake victims in Japan.
I admire Kuo and his team of athletes for this generous effort. It makes all of us feel a part of a bigger community. He reminded me that his countrymen & women were on the receiving end of kind efforts a few years back. He said, “Miss. Chiu Shu-jung, from Taiwan, was infected and amputated her legs after she finished Trans-Gaule race in 2008. The ultrarunners over the world showed their kind heart which encouraged Chiu to stand up again and now she spends her spare time to urge people especially handicap people to do exercises.” It is definitely a giving back community.
But Ultrarunning is more than just a sport. It is a journey where we meet people, become their friends and their family while reaching our destinations. It is said that it is not about reaching our destinations but the journey itself. Kuo very eloquently explains that, “Although the ultrarunning society is small, but we care each other. The distance between runners are shorter while we run longer distances.” I couldn’t have said that better.
